Job Description

Reporting to the HSSE Manager, the Field Coordinator will support the oversight of health, safety, security, and environmental management systems for personnel, contractors, and consultants. This role involves assisting with routine and incident reporting to relevant authorities and internal leadership, in accordance with organizational guidelines and applicable regulations. The Field Coordinator will serve as a direct on-site resource for internal teams responsible for implementing HSSE management systems across operational, maintenance, and project execution activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate the health, safety, security, and environmental risks and impacts associated with organizational activities and projects, providing guidance to the HSSE Manager and project teams on relevant requirements.
  • Demonstrate and promote safe and secure work practices, adhering to established health, safety, security, and environmental principles and organizational policies. Address unsafe practices immediately, including the authority to halt work if necessary.
  • Assess the HSSE qualifications, documentation, and performance of external contractors.
  • Deliver HSSE training programs to employees and contractors.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of policies and loss prevention programs aligned with the organization's Environmental and Safety management systems, recommending corrective and preventive actions to mitigate risks.
  • Support the HSSE Manager in the logistical oversight of contracted field safety personnel.
  • Assist the HSSE Manager with internal audits and strategic exercises, such as emergency response drills.
  • Through collaborative efforts, ensure adherence to relevant state, federal, and local regulatory requirements, licenses, permits, and safety/health codes, including occupational safety standards, public safety protocols, safety data sheet systems, and hazardous material reporting.
  • Participate in organizational HSSE Operations and Project Safety meetings.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintain records of HSSE-related equipment, including fire suppression systems, automated external defibrillators, first aid supplies, and personal protective equipment.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in industrial safety, occupational health, environmental management, or a closely related discipline is preferred; equivalent practical experience may be considered.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2-5 years of progressive experience in the development, coordination, and implementation of safety, security, and environmental programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with state, local, and other pertinent safety regulations and documentation requirements.
  • Familiarity with safety rules, regulations, and best practices relevant to utility infrastructure construction and maintenance operations.
  • Understanding of and experience with security and public safety programs and procedures.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and standard practices.
  • A foundational understanding of project management methodologies.
  • Experience with high-voltage systems is advantageous.

Certificates & Licenses:

  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Professional safety certification or certification in a related field is preferred.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in the use of standard office software, including email, spreadsheets, and word processing applications.
  • Ability to gain proficiency in safety management software platforms.

Competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong capacity for self-directed learning and problem-solving.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work may occur in adverse weather conditions, and frequent travel via vehicle for extended periods is required. The ability to lift and carry 50lbs is necessary.

Additional Physical Requirements (Office Work):

The position also includes periodic work in an office setting, requiring the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The primary work environment is outdoors at construction sites, with exposure to all weather conditions, including temperature extremes, during both day and potentially night shifts. Work may occur in demanding situations, and noise levels can be high. Significant travel between work locations is expected.
