Job Description

Based in Western Shawnee, Kansas and reporting to the Controller, this full-time position will work closely with the other staff members of the accounting department. They will provide management with accounting services to help assure the accuracy of books, compliance with corporate and government policies, efficiency of procedures, and completion of reports in a timely manner. Ideally we are looking for a Senior Accountant that wants to grow into a Controller in the next few years!

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, supplemental notes, and reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Preparing interim and annual audit working papers.
  • Reconcile intercompany sales and purchases between the US and Canadian entities.
  • Responsible for leading and supporting the full-cycle accounting processes; including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and benefits, banking, coding of invoices, and all general ledger maintenance, including journal entries, chart of account maintenance and account reconciliations for various companies.
  • Review and analysis of sales tax ledgers for the preparation of sales tax returns for multiple states and entities.
  • Perform payroll functions for three distinct payroll groups including hourly and salaried personnel. This includes both mass updates to the system and individual employee maintenance .
  • Calculate monthly sales commissions and quarterly oversell commissions and properly load into the payroll system for accurate and timely payment.
  • Perform specialized reporting from the Automatic Data Processing (ADP) payroll system.
  • Perform Banking (Treasury) functions including wire transfers, bank reconciliations, base borrowing reports, cash reports and positive pay activities.
  • Support real estate accounting functions for a large commercial industrial complex, including CAM reconciliations, tenant invoicing, and capital vs maintenance bookings.

QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • Certified Public Accounting (CPA) designation preferred but not required.
  • Strong systems knowledge and experience with automated accounting systems (preference for Microsoft Dynamics SL).
  • Payroll experience, including knowledge of the Automatic Data Processing (ADP) system.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • At least five years of experience in a related capacity.
  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with the use of Microsoft Office tools – i.e. Excel, Word.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A strong work ethic and effective time management skills.
  • Ability to work well in both a team and individual environment.
