Sheet Metal Engineer

Are you a hands-on Sheet Metal Engineering Professional with a passion for precision sheet metal? Join a well-established Long Island subcontract fabricator serving high-tech industries including Aerospace, Medical, and Electronics.
Our client is looking for a Sheet Metal Engineer to lead programming and process optimization for our laser cutters, turret punches, and press brakes. You’ll work directly with engineering, production, and quality teams to turn complex drawings into high-performance metal components.
What You’ll Do:
• Create programs from blueprints using CAD/CAM software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Amada, or similar).
• Optimize nesting, tool paths, and machine setup to reduce waste and increase output.
• Collaborate with machinists to troubleshoot and improve production processes.
• Support new product launches and ensure parts meet tight tolerances and customer specs.
What Our Client is Looking For:
• 3+ years of experience in programming for sheet metal fabrication.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, Amada Sheetworks, Dr Abe and AP100 software, or similar.
• Strong understanding of sheet metal manufacturing processes, tolerances, tooling, and material properties, and MIG/TIG/laser welding.
• Experience with nesting software and optimization of material usage.
• Working knowledge of GD&T, lean manufacturing, and quality systems (ISO 9001/AS9100 preferred).
