Job Description

Responsible for assessing the needs and planning and implementation of individualized therapeutic recreation interventions in home and in the community, to improve the functioning of individuals who have a wide variety of physical, cognitive, social, emotional, behavioral, developmental or age-related needs.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assess each individual, initially and annually, to determine strengths, needs, preferences of each person.
• Create and develop a RT support plan based on clinical/medical records, observation and discussions with person, family and program staff, to highlight medical relevance, outcomes, goals and person-specific interventions to be used.
• Implement interventions, based on person’s interests and preferences, in a 1:1, small/large group, community-based setting, including any/all adaptations and modifications needed for success.
• Evaluate the person’s progress toward RT goals.
• Completes all clinical documentation including assessments, quarterly reviews and progress notes.
• Documentation to include: person’s progress toward goals including but not limited to: the purpose of the intervention, the person’s participation, response and other pertinent information, within compliance of all relevant regulation and policies.
• Works with program staff to develop and implement a monthly recreation calendar inclusive of meaningful home and community-based interventions based on individual preferences and abilities.
• Participation in ISP meetings and other agency meetings as assigned.
• Provide staff training, regularly, on the delivery/effectiveness of individualized activities at program staff meetings and as needed.
• Participates in the person centered planning process and works toward targeted goals to achieve a high level of individuals’ satisfaction and results.

Other Job Functions

• Communicates clearly the philosophy, goals and purpose of Recreational Therapy.
• Works to promote a positive, professional image of recreational therapy inside and outside of agency.
• Collaborate and assist team members as needed.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

• 2-4-year degree in Recreational Therapy/Therapeutic Recreation
• Minimum of one (1) year working with individuals having intellectual disabilities.
• Knowledge of high intensity behavioral supports a must.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Equivalent of one (1) year experience facilitating therapeutic recreational activities.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to walk, stand, stoop and push a wheelchair.
• Ability to lift 70 pounds repetitively.
• Ability to implement strategic physical intervention techniques that require rapid physical movement.

Working Environment:

Indoor and Outdoor program site and various community locations.

Supervision Exercised:

None.
