Our client, A growing Food Manufacturer, is seeking a Director of Quality & Food Safety to join their team in Orange, CA

Job Title: Director of Quality Assurance & Food Safety

Location: Orange County, CA

Salary: $120- $145K annually, 15% bonus , comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, Retirement savings plan with company match

Position Summary: The Director of Quality Assurance & Food Safety will lead and manage the quality and food safety functions within our organization, ensuring the highest standards are met for all products. This role is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of food safety and quality systems, aligning with industry standards (SQF, HACCP, FDA, USDA). The Director will oversee a team of Quality Assurance professionals, collaborate across departments, and ensure all regulatory requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and manage food safety and quality assurance programs in alignment with the SQF Code, FDA, USDA, and other applicable regulations
  • Lead and mentor a team of Quality Assurance professionals, providing coaching and guidance to ensure optimal performance, development, and alignment with company objectives
  • Oversee risk assessments and implement preventative measures to maintain the safety and quality of products from production to distribution
  • Ensure the facility meets all SQF certification requirements. Manage internal audits, supplier audits, and participate in external inspections. Stay current on FDA, USDA, and other regulatory standards
  • Drive initiatives for continuous improvement across manufacturing processes to enhance product quality and efficiency. Foster a culture of quality and accountability within the organization
  • Partner with Operations, Sales, Supply Chain, and Engineering to ensure quality standards are met across all departments. Address customer quality concerns and maintain strong customer relations regarding product quality

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in food safety, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, or a related field (required). Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years in related functions within the food manufacturing industry, with at least 2 years in a USDA and/or FDA-regulated environment
  • SQF Practitioner status (required)
  • Knowledge of HACCP and other relevant quality and safety certifications
  • Strong understanding of FDA, USDA, and other food safety regulations
  • Proven ability to lead teams and work collaboratively across departments.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position, with occasional travel required for audits, training, or inspections.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment, with occasional exposure to warehouse conditions.
