Our Story
Gower New Life Church was officially launched on Sunday 8th October 2017 during a harvest service at Mount Pisgah Chapel in Parkmill.
How it all began
Four years after being part of the team that planted Liberty Church Swansea at the Bible College of Wales, Patrice and Rachael Aka felt the Call to start a new church in Gower. While looking for a possible location for the new church, an important door was opened at the Barham centre, Mount Pisgah, in Parkmill.
The choice of the Barham centre was confirmed when God showed them how their vision was closely linked to that of Lady Barham who build Mount Pisgah chapel (in 1822).
Lady Barham visited Gower in the 1800 and was touched by the needs of the people of Gower as expressed in the “Evangelical Magazine, February 1835”,
“…being much concerned to see the darkness of the place, and the spiritual destruction of its people, was anxious to know what she could do to improve the condition.”
Lady Barham was so passionate about making a difference in Gower that she moved to Gower and settled here. As a result, she strategically established six churches (from 1814 to 1822), built Manses known as Barham house as well as many schools. Such was her commitment that she even died in Gower.
They felt that God was calling them to pick up the baton and build on what started 200 years ago. We feel blessed and honoured to be connected to this rich history of worship and a deep connection with the community. Patrice and Rachael and their team bring a new vision, a contemporary edge and leadership to the new church.
We are proud of our history and thank God for his faithfulness over the years, but we are even more excited about this new adventure and looking forward to all that God has in store for Gower.
